Is the Sig Sauer P365X the Best Concealed Carry Firearm?

For those in the gun community and gun culture, you know all the hotness here of late is with the Sig Sauer P365 models as a CCW (concealed carry weapon). While they had some hiccups when they first launched the P365, they have since fixed the issues, and sales are racking up faster than Biden can give away billions of our taxpayer dollars to Ukraine. But which model do I think is the best concealed carry firearm? In my opinion, it’s the Sig Sauer P365X.

If I can take you back to your childhood, you probably remember the book Goldilocks and the Three Bears. Goldilocks tried all three bowls of porridge until she found one that was just right. And that seems to be the Sig Sauer P365X for most people — myself included. But what makes this the best concealed carry firearm in my eyes?

In this article, we are going to take a deeper dive into the Sig Sauer P365X and why I feel it is currently the best concealed carry firearm available. And it wouldn’t be right if I didn’t give Garry Marr of Tremis Dynamics a shout-out for pushing me in the direction of the Sig Sauer P365 models for CCW. He was on me for quite some time telling me to give any of the P365 models a go and compare it to my Glocks.

What is a Concealed Carry Firearm?

A concealed carry firearm or CCW is a firearm that is carried in a concealed manner on a person’s body for personal protection. In other words, the term “concealed carry” refers to the practice of carrying a firearm in such a way that it is not visible to others.

Related Article: A New Firearm Buyer’s Guide to Choosing an EDC Pistol

In many countries and jurisdictions, including the United States, individuals may obtain a permit or license to carry a concealed firearm in public places (unless you live in a Communist/Anti-Freedom state like California or New York). The requirements and restrictions for obtaining such a permit for CCW can vary widely depending on the country and jurisdiction.

Concealed carry firearms are typically handguns or pistols that are designed to be compact and easily carried on a person’s body without being noticeable — such as the Sig Sauer P365X that we are talking about in this article. They are often smaller and lighter than traditional firearms and may be equipped with special features, such as a shorter barrel to make them easier to conceal.

If you’re curious about the process involved when purchasing a firearm, check out this detailed article we wrote.

Why Would You Need a Concealed Carry Firearm Like a Sig Sauer P365X?

The decision to carry a concealed firearm like a Sig Sauer P365X for personal protection is a personal one that depends on individual circumstances, beliefs, and preferences. Some people may choose to have a concealed carry firearm because they live in high-crime areas or work in professions that put them at risk of being victimized. Others may choose to carry a CCW for peace of mind or as a means of self-defense in emergency situations.

The primary advantage of a concealed carry firearm is that it can provide a means of self-defense in situations where a person may not have other options. In some cases, the presence of a firearm can deter potential attackers from initiating an attack, while in other cases, it may be necessary to use the firearm to defend oneself.

However, it’s important to note that carrying a CCW, even something as small as a Sig Sauer P365X, also comes with significant responsibility, and those who choose to do so should be well-trained in safe and responsible handling of firearms, including when and how to use deadly force.

Additionally, it’s essential to understand the laws and regulations governing the carrying of concealed firearms in your jurisdiction. You should absolutely look up and understand your state and local laws as well as the states with reciprocity that will honor your concealed carry license/permit in their state and allow you to conceal and carry a firearm in their state (assuming you want to carry a firearm when you travel across state lines).

Why Should You Consider the Sig Sauer P365X Concealed Carry Firearm?

One of the reasons so many people love the Sig Sauer P365X is due to its small size yet vast array of features. You’re essentially taking all the pros of the original Sig Sauer P365 and the bigger Sig Sauer P365XL and putting them into one small and compact concealed carry firearm.

You’re taking the slide and barrel length of the Sig Sauer P365 and adding it on top of the Sig Sauer P365XL grip module. This provides you with a much better and more secure grip on the firearm since you can get a full grip without your pinky hanging off, along with a smaller slide for comfort while carrying. The problem with many micro CCW firearms is that the grip is too small and you can’t get a solid master grip on your concealed carry firearm.

The compact size and thinness of the Sig Sauer P365X makes it incredibly easy to conceal and extremely comfortable to wear in the appendix position. I’ve found that even while wearing a more form-fitted shirt, it can easily disappear under the cover garment (but your mileage may vary depending on your body type).

The Sig Sauer P365X comes with the following upgraded features out of the box:

  • XSERIES 365 Grip Module
  • Nitron Slide with XRAY3 Day/Night Sights
  • XSERIES Flat Trigger
  • Front and Rear Serrations
  • Red Dot Optic Ready
  • (2) 12-Round Flush-Fit Steel Magazines

The trigger on the Sig Sauer P365X is crisp and doesn’t have the standard mushy triggers like a stock Glock. This isn’t a jab at Glock, as they make great firearms, but let’s call a spade a spade in that most people swap out their Glock OEM trigger for an aftermarket one.

Quite possibly one of the coolest features of the Sig Sauer P365 family of concealed carry firearms is that (this is going to bring out all the keyboard commandos) it’s essentially an adult Lego set. Now, before all of your heads explode, let me explain.

The Sig Sauer P365 line of concealed carry firearms can have their parts swapped. Due to the P365 FCU (fire control unit) being the serialized part, you can take it out of one grip module and drop it into another based on your preferences.

Related Article: Off-Body Carry — Safely & Easily Conceal with a Fanny Pack

For instance, if you wanted to, you could take the Sig Sauer P365X FCU out of the XL grip module it comes on and drop it into the standard Sig Sauer P365 grip module. You can also change out the slides and create a Sig Sauer P365XL by adding the longer slide, barrel, and recoil spring, and simply drop in the FCU that came with your Sig Sauer P365X. It’s like building your own adult Lego set to create your own custom firearm and the best concealed carry firearm according to your preferences.

Something else to note before continuing on is the fact that you’re getting a ton of added features baked into the price of the Sig Sauer P365X that you would normally need to pay extra for in aftermarket parts and slide work, ultimately saving you a bunch of money upfront on your CCW.

For instance, the Sig Sauer P365X comes with a flat-faced trigger that typically doesn’t come standard on any firearms. You get added front serrations that most people need to pay extra and have sent out to get milled. The slide also comes milled and ready to go for a red dot optic (with a plate cover), where most of the time, you either need to pay to have your slide milled or pay for a custom slide from an aftermarket company that has the front serrations and optics cut. Lastly, you’re getting really nice night sights right out the gate, whereas most brands toss on standard sights, and you’d need to pay to upgrade them to night sights.

If you wanted to read an interesting interview, I did one with PHLster owner Jon Hauptman that you can read here about how to improve concealed carry and make carrying your CCW much easier.

How I Customized My Sig Sauer P365X with Parts and Accessories for CCW

In this section, I’m going to explain some of the things I purchased for the Sig Sauer P365X to give you some ideas of what you can do. This is by no means what I’m saying is the best — it’s simply what I consider the best concealed carry firearm according to my personal wants and needs. You can do the same or take the concepts and run with them to create your own ideal and best concealed carry firearm.

sig sauer p365x true precision copper barrel

True Precision Non-Threaded Barrel

Do you need a new barrel for your Sig Sauer P365X? No. Plain and simple. The stock 3.1” barrel is good to go. Me, I like to customize my concealed carry firearm (all of them, actually), so I got a copper-colored True Precision Non-Threaded Barrel. I liked the color, I liked the four X-flutes, and it has a 10-degree competition muzzle crown that is supposed to create equal and unobstructed gas dispersion leading to greater accuracy potential. But I’m going to call it as it is, I just wanted an aftermarket barrel.

Does it make the Sig Sauer P365X shoot better? Meh. Let’s be real, the stock barrel will work just as fine at my level as I’m not a competitive shooter. The one thing that is definitely noticeable is the feed ramp. The True Precision Barrel has a much wider feed ramp to allow for a better entry of the round into the chamber. Additionally, the True Precision Barrel is designed for all ammunition types, including cast lead reloads.

Sig Sauer Spectre Comp Slide & P365XL Recoil Spring

The hype is real when it comes to the launch of the Spectre Comp model of both the 320 and the 365. Sig Sauer created a slide with a built-in comp that they claim can reduce recoil by 30%. Is that accurate? I’m not sure how I’d be able to measure it on my own without some sort of special technology or machinery to actually understand how the recoil changes by 30%, but I can definitely feel a difference in felt recoil with the Spectre Comp Slide and the addition of the P365XL Recoil Spring.

What I really like is the overall value you get with the Sig Sauer P365X Spectre Comp Slide. While it’s definitely not cheap, the fact that you get the slide, internals, and suppressor height night sights, in my opinion, is a solid deal. Mind you, you’d need to still purchase the P365XL recoil spring separately. But when you factor out all the costs associated with buying the complete slide assembly, the cost savings is greater than any other aftermarket slide that has a built-in comp.

Shooting this setup is definitely different from the stock slide without the comp. Shooting this setup of the Sig Sauer P365X is much smoother, there’s less felt recoil, and you can more easily track your sights or red dot from what I’ve experienced. Some people have complained that the height of the sights blocks your view through a red dot, and I would agree if you’re really focusing on the sights versus looking through the red dot window at the target. In that case, you barely even see the sights, you merely see the red dot presented on the target without blocking any part of your vision down range.

Boresight Solutions Competitions Series Grip Module PHLster Package

To preface this upgrade, I’ll say that I am a huge fan of the Sig Sauer P365X grip. I found there to be nothing wrong with it as the smaller size is due to the nature of the firearm. That said, I was turned onto Boresight Solutions grip modules by Jon Hauptman of PHLster. Now, this upgrade is honestly the dumbest thing you could do if you like the Sig grip that comes with the firearm. But, me always wanting to test things out, I decided to purchase the Boresight Solutions Competition Series Grip Module PHLster Package for an insane $450. This could have been one of the dumbest purchases for my Sig that I’ve ever made. For that price, I could have almost purchased a second P365.

All that said, this grip truly is the bee’s knees. Everything from the stippled grip, shaved beavertail, shaved magwell flare, pinkie lip extension, stippled trigger guard, and their claim-to-fame razorback grip heel extension. Not only does this grip module lock the firearm into your hand better, but it conceals better due to shaving down the beavertail and magwell flare. Carrying the Sig Sauer P365X in this configuration (in the appendix position) is a dream.

The nice thing about this grip module is that if it doesn’t feel right in your hand or you want changes made to it, you can send it back to Ben and he will customize the grip to make it the perfect fit for your hand and meet your needs and requirements. That’s awesome since you’re shelling out all that money on the grip module and you want it to be perfect for that price.

Am I glad I got the Boresight Solutions grip module for my Sig Sauer P365X? Absolutely. Did the price tag hurt? Without a doubt. But I’d recommend this grip module for anyone looking to enhance your grip, increase concealability, and reduce recoil.

M*Carbo Sig Sauer P365 Titanium Striker Assembly

The M*Carbo Sig Sauer P365 Titanium Striker Assembly stands as a top-tier enhancement for your firearm. It is meticulously engineered to elevate both performance and durability. This complete system seamlessly compatible with various models, prominently the Sig Sauer P365. Crafted with utmost precision using lightweight titanium through CNC machining, this P365 striker significantly reduces lock time, guaranteeing no occurrence of light strikes or primer drag, which are common issues associated with the standard MIM Striker. Remarkably, the M*Carbo Sig Sauer P365 Titanium Striker Assembly weighs 35% less than the Factory OEM Striker, providing effortless maneuverability and precision.

This comprehensive striker assembly upgrade arrives fully assembled and is remarkably straightforward to install, delivering immediate drop-in improvements. With enhanced striker lug geometry, it effectively reduces trigger creep by 30%, ultimately refining your shooting skills. The striker serves as an ideal solution for minimizing Sig P365 Primer Drag while simultaneously elevating your firearm’s longevity and overall performance. Its superior stainless steel construction assures robustness and a prolonged lifespan, allowing for multiple disassemblies without concerns of tabs breaking off.

Furthermore, the Sig Sauer P365 Striker Housing Cap Lock boasts a distinctive double-lock system designed to maintain the slide cap securely locked during live fire. This proprietary locking mechanism excels in efficiency and effectiveness compared to Sig’s recently introduced slide cap lock striker housing. You also get a 100% lifetime guarantee with this product. Overall, I can tell a difference between this product and the OEM striker. I’d highly recommend you add this to your Sig Sauer P365X if you plan on actually being able to clean your firearm completely without damaging the OEM parts.

  • 1 – Precision CNC Machined Titanium Sig Sauer P365 Striker – (Reduced Weight allows for Lighter Striker Spring)

MagGuts +2 Conversion Kit

Here’s something that I’d tell you to purchase as soon as you get a Sig Sauer P365X — MagGuts. Don’t wait. Don’t think about it. Just go online and buy it. Out of the box, the Sig Sauer P365X is a 12+1, which isn’t bad for a CCW firearm. That said, with the MagGuts +2 Conversion Kit, you turn your standard CCW Sig magazine into a 14+1. That’s nearly the same capacity as a Glock 19, only in a tiny compact concealed carry firearm.

Swapping out the guts of your Sig magazine is simple and will take you less than a minute to do. In the packaging, you will get a new spring, follower, and base.

After the swap, you still get a reliable feed and slide lock, an increase in capacity with really no difference in grip length, simple concealment, and an easier-to-load mag. In case you weren’t keeping score, it’s a win on multiple levels. Like I said, don’t think about it, just go buy it for your Sig Sauer P365X and improve your CCW capacity.

sig sauer p365x phlster holsters

PHLster Enigma Express and Pro Series Holsters

A product that many people look for immediately after purchasing a concealed carry firearm is a holster (or multiple). In my case, after buying the Sig Sauer P365X, it was multiple. Why? Because I like to carry in different ways based on what I’m wearing. Unsurprisingly, I ran to PHLster for both of my CCW holsters.

The first CCW holster I purchased for my Sig Sauer P365X was the PHLster Engima Express because I love the option to run a holster without needing to wear a belt (and which I can also wear a firearm in joggers or workouts shorts). In case you didn’t see my initial review, I did a full review of the PHLster Engima that you can read here.

The difference between the two Enigma models is that the Express comes with a holster already attached (the PHLster Skeleton), and there is no means of fine-tuning or adjusting on the mounting plate. But honestly, out of the box, the PHLster Enigma Express was perfect for my CCW, the only thing I needed to change was the tightness of the strap along with the leg leash according to my body type (which everyone needs to do). If your CCW firearm is on the list of available models for the Express, I would highly recommend going that route.

The other holster I purchased from PHLster is their Pro holster with the added option of the DCC Monoblock Kit to replace the soft loops they come with to further help improve concealability. Unlike the Enigma, the Pro must be put on a belt in order to carry. Like the Engima, it also utilizes a ModWing that helps tuck the grip of the Sig Sauer P365X into the body for better concealment of your CCW.

The Pro model has a really unique molded feature where (not only is it ambidextrous) it has a built-in wedge that helps employ the “keel principle,” which prevents the top of the gun above the belt from tilting outward and away from the body causing a printing issue. This built-in wedge pushes against the body and tucks the gun into the body for better concealment. Short guns and holsters want more keel to improve concealability and these holster help accomplish that with their added length.

Both holsters are compatible with red dot optics (such as the Holosun 407K or Holosun 507K that are perfect for the Sig Sauer P365X), suppressor-height sights, and threaded barrels.

Henry Holster Ember

I’m a fan of PHLster Holsters and the next best thing to the exact mold is Henry Holster. When I want to carry a weapon mounted light (WML) on my Sig Sauer P365X (such as the Streamlight TLR-7 Sub mentioned below), I need a holster that isn’t bulky, conceals well, has good retention, has a claw to pull the grip in closer to the body, and can use DCC clips or Monoblock. The Henry Holster Ember checked all of those boxes while still allowing me to run a red dot on my Sig Sauer P365X.

Light-bearing holsters I’ve always found to be gigantic and bulky, which is why I don’t tend to have a WML on my firearm unless I’m carrying at night, and even then, they tend to be uncomfortable. The Henry Holster Ember is not. In fact, I don’t even need to put a wedge on the holster, as it conceals perfectly and I don’t have any hot spots while wearing it. The retention on the Sig Sauer P365X is ideal and suits my preferences quite well.

The shipping to my door was the fastest I’ve had from any holster company. I placed an order and two days later it showed up. The quality of the CCW holster is top notch and I would not hesitate to recommend the Henry Holster Ember to anyone who has a Sig Sauer P365X with a Streamlight TLR-7 Sub attached to the front.

sig sauer p365x streamlight TLR-7 sub

Streamlight TLR-7 Sub

If I’m going out at night, I like to have a WML on my firearm. I purchased the Streamlight TLR-7 Sub, which fits the Sig Sauer P365X perfectly. There is no wiggle or wobble and while it isn’t the brightest WML out there, it still throws out 500 lumens which is more than enough for what I would need it to do. It should be noted that you MUST purchase this exact model if you want it to fit your Sig Sauer P365X, as the other TLR-7 models will not attach properly.

I like the fact that the Streamlight TLR-7 Sub comes with replacement switches that you can made the paddles shorter or longer depending on your individual wants and needs. Personally, I swapped out what came standard with with shorter paddle switches that also come with the Streamlight TLR-7 Sub. It’s also convenient that included is a tool to help screw the light on and off (or you can use a screwdriver or a piece of 9mm brass) as well as a punch on the other side to help change out the paddle switches.

The Streamlight TLR-7 Sub is easy to manipulate and one of the best things that I’ve found with this WML is that there is a natural (probably unintentional) ledge on the light that allows you to use your Streamlight TLR-7 Sub as a gas pedal to allow your thumb to apply downward pressure against the WML to help better control recoil and muzzle flip of your concealed carry firearm.

Do you need a WML like the Streamlight TLR-7 Sub on your Sig Sauer P365X? No. You can run a handheld light if you prefer (just make sure you understand how to use it properly). But having the Streamlight TLR-7 Sub on my Sig Sauer P365X makes it a better option when carrying in low-light or no-light scenarios. Additionally, as mentioned, I’m really liking the ledge on the light to help improve the speed of my follow up shots and recoil mitigation. I’d highly recommend the Streamlight TLR-7 Sub if you were looking for a light to attach to your Sig Sauer P365X and go ahead and pick up the Henry Holster Ember mentioned above that works flawlessly with this WML.

sig sauer p365x with holosun 407k

Holosun 407K Red Dot Optic

While I believe the sights that come on the Sig Sauer P365X are actually perfect, I’m a red dot guy. I have them on all of my CCW firearms and even though I can quickly acquire the sights on this firearm as is, it just felt naked without a red dot. I went with the Holosun 407K red dot optic (in the actual 6 MOA red dot option). Being that I have an actual “red” dot on my other CCW firearms, I wanted to keep the uniformity rather than switching up to a green dot (which I personally really like).

Since the Sig Sauer P365X requires a micro red dot, your options are somewhat limited. That said, the Sig Romeo Zero was immediately eliminated from the list due to people having SEVERAL issues with the optic and it being made out of a non-durable material and a plastic lens. I’m a huge fan of the Holosun products and (dare I say) I even like their product better than the Trijicon RMR that I also own.

All of that being said, shooting with a red dot optic like the Holosun 407K on top of the Sig Sauer P365X makes the firearm shoot like a dream as you can easily acquire the dot and put accurate hits on target.

first wave mag pouch

First Wave Holsters Mag Pouch

First Wave Holsters is somewhat of a newcomer to the holster game but the quality products they are putting out are definitely something worth looking into. The crew at First Wave Holsters was even kind enough to put my logo on the mag pouch. Now, I don’t always carry a spare magazine for my Sig Sauer P365X or even have a backup nearby, but when I do, I want to have my spare mag on my waistline next to my pistol holster where it can be easily concealed (inside-the-waistband to the left to easily acquire with my left hand).

The turnaround time to get my mag pouch was super fast and only took a few days to get to my door. If you want to buy some of their gear, you’ll have to contact them on social media in order to place an order as they do all custom orders or you can purchase their product from local retailers or over on the Tremis Dynamics website.

The First Wave Holsters Mag Pouch comes with a DCC Monoblock, which if you’ve read my other content, I’m a huge fan of all DCC style clips. This particular mag pouch is pretty unique and I actually needed to ask how to modify to fit a Sig Sauer P365X mag. When it arrived it fit a Glock mag and I though I may have been sent the wrong product. After inquiring, I was told that the First Wave Holsters Mag Pouch uses a “Mag Retention Device,” which is the spacer at the folded end of the mag pouch. You merely tighten or loosen the allen screw in order to make the pouch fit larger or smaller magazines. I tightened up the screw so that it would fit my Sig magazine.

Being able to change the retention to the precise tightness you prefer is a nice option as some mag pouches come as is without the ability to make adjustments. Also, the First Wave Holsters Mag Pouch is ambi for a lefty or righty by swapping the clip to the opposite side. You can also use this IWB or OWB to suit your needs.

It should also be noted that the way the First Save Holsters Mag Pouch is designed, it allows the mag to sit deep into the pouch so that it doesn’t stick up high and dig into you when you move around or bend over. It’s actually really comfortable to carry on the waistline.

sig sauer p365-xmacro 17rd mag

Now, touching on the spare mag, I found something that you may find helpful and incredibly beneficial. You can actually use a Sig Sauer 17rd P365-XMACRO Magazine in your Sig Sauer P365X. Yes, a P365-XMACRO magazine will fit in your Sig Sauer P365X firearm (it can also fit in your standard P365 as well as your P365XL with the shown baseplate adapters in the image above). So, not only can you have a magazine in your CCW that uses Mag Guts to have 14+1, but then you have a spare magazine that holds an additional 17 rounds (not bad, right?). More ammo equal more better, no? In my opinion, if I need to use my CCW firearm, I’ll never complain about having too many bullets.

What is the Best Sig Sauer for Concealed Carry? My Pick is the Sig Sauer P365X

In the end, what is the best Sig Sauer for concealed carry? In my opinion, hands down, the Sig Sauer P365X is the best concealed carry firearm out there (currently).

But honestly, I don’t think you could go wrong with the Sig Sauer P365X or the Sig Sauer P365XL. If you wanted the smallest profile possible, the P365X would be the better option if you still wanted a full grip for your CCW but if you don’t mind the added length of the slide, the P365XL is a fantastic choice as well.
