Is the NeoMag Type G the Best Way to Conceal a Glock Mag?
When carrying a spare magazine, are you the type of person who simply tosses the magazine in your pocket all willy-nilly? While that may be the easiest way to carry a spare magazine, it moves and shifts around in your pocket, making it less than ideal. Then came along the NeoMag Type G to improve your spare magazine carry method. But is it the best?
Disclaimer: I purchased the NeoMag Type G with my own money. This product was not supplied to me by NeoMag, they did not pay me or compensate me to speak about their product, and the opinions on this product are solely mine and my personal experience with this pocket clip mag carrier. What’s the Need for Carrying a Spare Mag?
Such a question arises quite often in the EDC and tactical community. Is there really a need to carry a spare magazine? After all, if you were to look at the data, most gunfights never make it past a few rounds, let alone having the slide lock back and need to insert a new mag to gas your firearm back up.
So, what’s the purpose then?
The biggest reason for carrying a spare magazine is for malfunctions. It’s much easier to drop a magazine out of the firearm to clear a malfunction than it is to fully diagnose the issue. The worse sound you’ll ever hear when your life is on the line is a “click” instead of a “bang.”
Sure, many teach the “Tap-Rack” method, but if that fails, then what? That’s where merely changing out the mag is your best solution.
Many malfunctions are caused by a faulty magazine or an issue with the magazine feeding the firearm.
The other reason would be a worst-case scenario where you’re caught in something like an active shooter situation, and in that case, I don’t know anyone who would complain about having a sufficient number of rounds on them when their life was on the line.
Can’t You Just Use an IWB Mag Carrier?
Absolutely! However, some people don’t prefer this method based on their body type. Additionally, many find it uncomfortable having more things attached to their beltline, which can also create more printing.

Therefore, many look for other options when it comes to carrying a spare magazine, or they simply don’t carry one at all, thinking it’s inconvenient.
Some holster companies have mag carriers or caddies that attach to the side of their firearm holster. This is another simple way to carry a spare magazine, but it again goes back to how much real estate they have available on their beltline, as well as a concealability issue depending on their body type.
How Does the NeoMag Type G Compare to the Standard NeoMag?
When looking at the standard NeoMag, they come with one magnet that holds a magazine that uses steel for the body. While it does a fantastic job of holding steel mags and even Glock mags, the single magnet (with the standard NeoMag) didn’t do a great job of holding a Glock mag in place in the pocket.
So, they created the NeoMag Type G that comes with two magnets and does a much better job of holding your Glock mag in place.
Why Would You Need the NeoMag Type G?
To be honest, you don’t. But if you want a better way to carry a Glock mag, you’re going to find the NeoMag Type G to be extremely convenient.
On top of having a better hold on your Glock mag, it positions your magazine in such a way that you can quickly and easily grab it if you need to insert a new magazine into your firearm.

Having to reach down into your pocket without the use of a NeoMag is not ideal, and then you end up fumbling with the magazine to insert it into your firearm because you have no idea the position the magazine is facing when pulling it out of your pocket without a NeoMag.
The NeoMag Type G keeps your Glock mag in the same position every time. It’s all about consistency and repetition. You don’t want to have to think about things when in a crisis.
What Are the Specs?
The NeoMag Type G is made specifically for Glock single and double stack magazines. You can choose between a standard-length clip or an extended that can be used for deeper concealment (which I personally like) or if you’re carrying a Glock mag with an extended baseplate on it.
It should be noted that the NeoMag Type G works with all Glock OEM magazines. If you own a Magpul or ETS magazine, they will not work as they do not contain any steel to allow the magnets to attach onto.
Something else NeoMag did that makes perfect sense is they put a rubberized bumper on the body of the NeoMag, which helps hold it in place in the pocket so that it doesn’t lift up or come out with the magazine when you extract it from your pocket.

The NeoMag Type G is made of a black nitride steel and has a titanium clip. All NeoMags are made in the USA and come with a lifetime manufacturer’s warranty.
Would I recommend the NeoMag Type G?
My answer is yes, with one caveat being to only purchase it if you truly want to carry a spare magazine often.
Why do I say this?
For starters, I’m not being financially motivated to promote this product. Whether you buy it or not doesn’t change anything for me. It’s not like I make a commission or am getting paid by NeoMag to talk about their product.
But also, the standard NeoMag and NeoMag Type G are not cheap pieces of kit. You’re going to spend around $50 for this magazine pocket carrier. We all have a box or drawer full of holsters we don’t use anymore. Don’t make this another thing sitting being unused.
If you find value in such a product and it solves your problem of carrying a magazine loosely in your pocket, then you’re going to love this product. Put it in your front pocket or back pocket, and you’ll completely forget it’s there due to how comfortable it is.
