What is a Pistol Safe?
A pistol safe, like the Konig Safe 1.0 is a secure storage container designed to safely store handguns and other firearms. These pistol safes are specifically designed to provide quick and easy access to a firearm while ensuring that it remains inaccessible to unauthorized individuals, such as children or potential thieves. Gun safes come in various shapes and sizes, and they can be constructed from different materials, including steel, to provide varying levels of security.
Here are some common features and characteristics of pistol safes and things the Konig Safe 1.0 has that make it so great:
- Locking Mechanisms: Pistol safes typically feature various locking mechanisms to restrict access. These can include electronic keypad locks, combination locks, key locks, biometric fingerprint scanners, or a combination of these methods. In the case of the Konig Safe 1.0, you get a couple of these mechanisms.
- Quick Access: Many pistol safes are designed for rapid access to the stored firearm in case of an emergency. This is often achieved through biometric scanners or electronic keypads, allowing authorized users to open the safe quickly. The Konig Safe 1.0 has a great biometric feature.
- Security: Pistol safes are built with security in mind. They are usually made from durable materials, such as steel, and have reinforced locking mechanisms to resist tampering or forced entry.
- Size and Portability: Pistol safes come in various sizes to accommodate different types of handguns and accessories. Some are small and compact for single handguns, while others are larger to store multiple firearms or include space for additional items like magazines or spare ammunition. Some pistol safes are designed to be portable for travelers.
- Mounting Options: Many pistol safes can be bolted down or securely mounted to a surface, such as a nightstand, desk, or inside a vehicle, to prevent theft. You have the option to bolt down your Konig Safe 1.0 if you wish.
- Legal Compliance: It’s essential to be aware of local, state, and national regulations regarding firearm storage. Some jurisdictions have specific requirements for how firearms must be stored to prevent unauthorized access.
Pistol safes serve as a responsible and safety-conscious way to store handguns, especially in homes with children or when you need quick access to a firearm for self-defense purposes. Properly securing firearms is crucial to preventing accidents and ensuring they don’t fall into the wrong hands.
Why Would You Need a Pistol Safe?
Let’s start off with the obvious — why would you need a pistol safe, such as the Konig Safe 1.0?
A pistol safe can be used to protect valuable items such as jewelry, watches, important documents, and cash from theft or damage. It can also be used to store items that should be kept out of reach of children or other individuals, such as firearms or medication. Some gun safes can also be used for fire protection, keeping the contents inside safe in case of a fire (the Konig Safe 1.0 is not fire-rated).
It should be said that if you’re buying a firearm, you need to have a quality pistol safe to keep it in.
Most importantly, a safe can provide peace of mind by giving you a secure location to store your valuables from prying eyes and sticky fingers.
Personally, I’m using the Konig Safe 1.0 as a gun safe. A gun safe is used to securely store firearms in order to prevent unauthorized access or theft. It also helps to keep the firearms out of the hands of children or other individuals who should not have access to them.
It should also be noted that in some states, it is a legal requirement to have a gun safe if you own firearms (check your local laws to ensure you are compliant where you live).

All that being said, you can also use the Konig Safe 1.0 to store your EDC items at night, your luxury watches, jewelry, small electronics, and much more inside the safe.
To show you just how much room the Konig Safe 1.0 has, below is an image of my Glock 17 with a Streamlight TLR-2s, ZEV magwell, comp, and extended mag, along with a SOF-T tourniquet in a PHLster Flatpack, and spare 17-round magazine (with more room to spare!).
Where Are Some Good Places to Put a Gun Safe in Your Home?
Some good places to keep a pistol safe in your home include:
- In a closet or other out-of-the-way location that is not easily visible from the outside of your home.
- Tethered to a nightstand or tethered under your bed.
- Secured to the top of a piece of furniture.
- In a basement or other interior room on the first floor, where it will be difficult for burglars to access.
- In a hidden location, such as behind a bookshelf or inside a cabinet.
- In a bedroom or home office, where you can easily access it.
- Some people also prefer to install a gun safe in a wall or floor, but this typically requires you to cut into a wall or flooring and make a permanent modification (which most people are not looking to do).
- It is important to consider the size of the gun safe and the location of where you will be placing it to ensure it can be properly secured and hidden.

Can You Keep a Pistol Safe in Your Vehicle?
Absolutely. In fact, I plan on using the Konig Safe 1.0 when I travel to keep my firearm and valuables locked up.
Should you choose to have a dedicated gun safe in your vehicle (which I do), it should absolutely be tethered to something so it cannot be stolen easily. Far too many people toss a pistol safe in their vehicle and completely forget it’s in their trunk and leave the trunk open when transporting things to and from their home. This is a horrible idea, as anyone can walk by and steal your gun safe.
If you have something like the Konig Safe 1.0, you can tether it to a secure latch in your trunk or tether it under the seat of your vehicle for easy access inside the vehicle should you need it.

Something to consider again are your local laws. In some states, you are not allowed to carry a loaded firearm or have a firearm and ammunition in the same compartment. Even if you have a firearm stored and locked inside the Konig Safe 1.0, you may still be breaking laws. Check your local laws to ensure you are staying compliant, even if you have a concealed carry permit.
What’s So Great About the Konig Safe 1.0?
Here’s the interesting thing about the Konig Safe 1.0… There aren’t many reviews out there on it (which I found to be odd). Not for nothing, but this is a really cool safe for the many reasons I’m about to mention. So, my hope is that more people search for the Konig Safe 1.0 and that they find my review, and it helps them decide whether it’s worth the money or not in their particular circumstance (feel free to share a link to this article on your website or social media).
But let’s look at some of the things I like:
1. The look and design of the Konig Safe 1.0
The Konig Safe 1.0 is a sharp-looking pistol safe. You could easily put this on your dresser and have it not look out of place like some of the gun safes we are all used to seeing and using. Heck, I have a huge box on my nightstand that looks hideous, whereas something like this could easily replace that and not have your significant other nagging that it’s an ugly eyesore.
Overall, the Konig Safe 1.0 is sleek, slim, and is aesthetically pleasing to the eye. You could put this on your coffee table in the middle of your family room, and it wouldn’t stick out like a sore thumb — it looks that good.
2. Multiple ways to access the Konig Safe 1.0
I’m a fan of having the ability to get into your pistol safe via different methods. With the Konig Safe 1.0, you can get in via fingerprint, keypad, or RFID. I have been using the keypad and fingerprint, and it’s been working flawlessly.
Personally, I’m still not a fan of RFID even though it’s convenient, but it’s that very reason that I’m still on the fence about whether I want to use it. I don’t like the fact that one of my kids could find the RFID card and open my gun safe. I much rather prefer using my fingerprint or the keypad with a difficult code.
3. App compatible (kind of)
After speaking with customer service, their app engineers are working through some bugs currently with the app. That said, they are supposed to be launching (re-launching) their app that will send a notification to your phone if your safe is tampered with, as well as providing you with some additional benefits only found in the app.
Since they are already promoting the app on their website, I would have hoped that it would have launched earlier than this coming summer (per their best estimate). It will be nice to have an app, but again, for the price of the Konig Safe 1.0, I feel like this should have already been working and functional.
4. It comes with a power adapter
Sure, it should be a given that it comes with a power adapter, but you would be surprised how many things these days ship where you need to purchase the power adapter separately. I’m not sure what world those brands are living in, but that’s ridiculous, in my opinion.
The ability to recharge the unit versus replacing batteries is a nice touch. The unit will last around three months before needing to be plugged back into a power source and recharged.
5. Hydraulic arms
The Konig Safe 1.0 is a little different from your traditional safe in that it uses hydraulic arms to open the lid. Many safes on the market either have a door that drops down for entry or a lid that you physically need to lift up after it unlocks.
Having the hydraulic arms on the Konig Safe 1.0 allows for easy access where once you enter your code, fingerprint, or use the RFID, the lid opens automatically, providing you with immediate access to the contents inside. It’s actually pretty slick.
6. Interior LED light
A light in a gun safe, in my opinion, is a must. If it’s dark out and I need to get into the pistol safe, I want to be able to see what I’m reaching for (use your imagination if there was a loaded firearm inside the safe).
Being that the Konig Safe 1.0 has an interior LED light that helps illuminate the contents when the safe is opened. This is a great feature, and one that I think should come standard on every gun safe on the market.
Is There Anything I’d Like Changed with the Konig Safe 1.0?
As with anything, you can find things that you’d like to change, and there are a few with the Konig Safe 1.0. Below are some of the recommendations I’d like to make to Konig that they can do with not only the Konig Safe 1.0 but all the safes they have available.
1. Every pistol safe should come with a tethering cable
I understand there’s a cost associated with it, but just bake it into the price of the unit you’re selling. In today’s age, where everything needs to be secured, there’s no reason for a cable not to come with the Konig Safe 1.0 out of the box.
With things like firearms under fire from all directions due to guns not being locked up and secure — a tethering cable is 100% necessary and should come with all safes, not just the Konig Safe 1.0. I don’t think there should be any debate about this, and I would encourage Konig to do the right thing here and add it to what comes in the box.
For what it’s worth, I went on Amazon and purchased the same Kensington cable that Konig has on their website, and it only cost me $18. You can check it out here.
2. The tamper alarm needs to be reworked
If you’re thinking about carrying the Konig Safe 1.0 in your car… DON’T. Once you set the tamper device on the Konig Safe 1.0, it’s going to go off seconds after you start moving your car. You then need to turn it off, and if you want the tamper alarm back on, you need to reset it, or once you turn the alarm off, it won’t turn back on automatically. There should be a way to rework the entire tamper alarm to function better for the end user.
There’s literally no way to have the tamper alarm functional while in a vehicle.
3. Keeping the Konig Safe 1.0 plugged in damages the battery
My goal with the safe was to keep it plugged in all the time so that I never needed to worry about charging it, but after speaking with their customer service rep, they mentioned that keeping the Konig Safe 1.0 plugged in would damage the battery and that they did not recommend it.
Honestly, that really sucks. I wanted the flexibility of keeping it plugged in all the time and then unplug it when I needed to travel with it.
4. The USB charging ports are worthless
Being that there are two USB ports on the back to charge your devices (phone, etc.), I’m not sure why they wouldn’t make the Konig Safe 1.0 able to be plugged in all the time since using the USB ports can only power your devices when the Konig Safe 1.0 is plugged into a power source itself (seems kind of silly, no?).
You would think if you’re going to have USB charging ports on the back, that they would function all the time off of the internal battery, but no. You literally need to have the Konig Safe 1.0 plugged in for those ports to function. Personally, I would have rather they just not included the two USB ports at all and saved the end user some money (or swap it out for the cost of the tether cable that needs to be included).
Would I Recommend the Konig Safe 1.0?
Let’s get the elephant in the room out of the way. If you want to purchase the Konig Safe 1.0, you’re going to drop $300 (the regular listed price on their website). At the time of writing this, there is a discount that dropped the Konig Safe 1.0 down to $225 (you may want to click here to see if you can still get the savings).

Is that expensive? That is a personal question that only you can answer. Is it worthy of that price tag, in my opinion? If you were to fix some of the recommendations I made above, I think it would be a no-brainer for the price. But I still see tremendous value at that price point.
Would I personally recommend the Konig Safe 1.0? Absolutely. I love the look of the Konig Safe 1.0, and I use it daily.
Something else to note is that I have nearly a dozen different pistol safes, and I wouldn’t have any of them out where someone would see them because they’re ugly as sin and look like a big bulky box. The Konig Safe 1.0 is a sleek and stylish safe that you can sit out, and it doesn’t scream “GUN SAFE!”
So, if you’re in the market for a safe, I really like the Konig Safe 1.0 and would recommend it to anyone looking for a safe and sleek way to store their firearms or valuables. You can click here to purchase the Konig Safe 1.0 or learn more about the pistol safe.
Additionally, Konig sells a smaller “Junior” version of their gun safe that you can find here.
