Putting in Work: An Interview with Boxer Travis Kauffman

Interview with Heavyweight Boxer, Travis Kauffman

For those who aren’t aware, you (Travis Kauffman aka “My Time”) are a professional Heavyweight Boxer with an outstanding record. That being said, what made you want to start boxing and make a career out of it?

Travis Kauffman: My father had a boxing gym and he was a single father to me and my older brother. With him running the boxing gym it took time away from us kids so I wanted to spend time with my father — so I started boxing to spend more time with him. From there my love for the sport grew.

You just signed with a big name agent. How did that come about and what will that bring to the table for you?

Travis Kauffman: Well I signed with Al Haymon who is the biggest manager in boxing and I was with him in 2009 we just went separate ways but it’s great to be back where I belong. What it means is he will get me more exposure and help me make tons of money in my career.

Tell us a little bit about “Team Kauffman” and the people you surround yourself with.

Travis Kauffman: Team Kauffman consist of myself, of course, my manager Al Haymon (who is Floyd Mayweather’s manager), my father Marshall Kauffman (who is my co-manager and trainer), Naazim Richardson (my head boxing trainer), Clarence Curry (my conditioning coach), and Duane Curley (my strength coach). That’s the Dream Team right there and couldn’t be happier.

What’s your current record and ranking?

Travis Kauffman: My record is currently 28-1 — 20 of those wins coming by KO’s.

Your father has always been in your corner. What has working with your father so closely meant to you?

Travis Kauffman: My father is my best friend and biggest supporter. It can be tough cause we fight a lot, but at the end of the day I love him and I know he has my best interest.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

Travis Kauffman: I see myself being successful and living a life people only dream of. It won’t be easy getting there, but nothing worth having comes easy.

What is your ultimate goal? What do you want to get out of boxing?

Travis Kauffman: My ultimate goal is to of course be the undisputed heavyweight champ of the world, make lots of money, and for my kids to always remember me as a great caring father. What I really want to get out of boxing is to be recognized worldwide for the hard work and dedication I’ve put into this sport.

When it’s time to hang up your gloves, what do you want to be remembered for in the sport?

Travis Kauffman: I want to be remembered as someone who had a huge heart and was one of the best heavyweights to ever hop in the ring. But people have opinions and for me, all that matters is what my kids think of me.

What do you see yourself doing when you hang up your gloves and do you have an ideal age that you think you will box until?

Travis Kauffman: I don’t want to box past 35 and I want to make enough money to open my own gym or some type of organization for kids to keep them off the streets.

It’s great to hear someone who wants to give back to the community. You’re also trying to help out the homeless in Reading, PA. How has that been and how is it going?

Travis Kauffman: I’ve always had an interest in helping the less fortunate and I’m blessed to be in a position to do such a caring thing. Right now it’s going good and my efforts are really helping a lot of people. I’m doing everything myself right now, but I’m now trying to branch out and have others contribute as well to grow it even further. I also have my kids with me helping out and showing them how to be caring young men.

You’re an inspiration to the kids in Reading, PA. Is there anything you’d like to say to the kids out there who follow and believe in you?

Travis Kauffman: Never give up a dream because anything is possible if you just believe. Also, don’t be mad about what you don’t have, but be very grateful for what you do have.
