What is a Faraday Bag?
A Faraday bag, also known as a Faraday cage or Faraday shield, is a device or enclosure designed to block electromagnetic fields, including radio waves, microwaves, and other electromagnetic radiation. It is named after the English scientist Michael Faraday, who made significant contributions to the study of electromagnetism in the 19th century.
Faraday bags are typically made of conductive materials, such as metal or metal-coated fabric, and are designed to create a shield that prevents electromagnetic signals from entering or leaving the enclosed space. They work based on the principle of electromagnetic shielding, which involves using conductive materials to redirect or absorb electromagnetic radiation.
It’s important to note that the effectiveness of a Faraday bag depends on its design and construction, as well as the specific electromagnetic frequencies it is designed to shield against. When using a Faraday bag, it is crucial to ensure it is properly sealed to provide adequate protection.
What are GoDark Faraday Bags?
GoDark Faraday Bags are Faraday bags, which are bags that block all incoming and outgoing electromagnetic field (EMF) signals. This includes signals from cell phones, GPS devices, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth.
GoDark Faraday Bags are made with two layers of RF-shielding fabric and have been independently tested to provide an average of 105 dB of EMF signal attenuation.
Why Would You Need a GoDark Faraday Bag?
There are many reasons why you might need a GoDark Bag. Here are just a few:
- To protect your privacy
GoDark Faraday Bags can help protect your privacy from location tracking and hacking. When your phone is in a GoDark Bag, it cannot be tracked by GPS or cell phone towers. Additionally, your phone cannot be hacked remotely if it is in a GoDark Bag.
- To reduce your exposure to EMF radiation
EMF radiation is a type of non-ionizing radiation that is emitted by electronic devices. While the long-term effects of EMF radiation are not fully understood, some studies have linked it to health problems such as cancer and infertility. GoDark Faraday Bags can help reduce your exposure to EMF radiation by blocking most of the signals emitted by electronic devices.
- To protect your devices from EMP blasts
An electromagnetic pulse (EMP) is a burst of electromagnetic energy that can damage electronic devices. EMPs can be caused by nuclear explosions, lightning strikes, and solar flares. GoDark Faraday Bags can help protect your devices from EMP blasts by shielding them from electromagnetic energy.
- To keep your devices safe from data breaches
GoDark Faraday Bags can also help to keep your devices safe from data breaches. When your devices are in a GoDark Bag, they cannot be accessed by RFID scanners or other devices that are used to steal data.
Specific Use Cases for GoDark Faraday Bags
Unsure if you need a Faraday bag? Below are some specific use cases where, depending on what you do for a living or how you look at the world, a bag such as a GoDark Bag may come in handy.
Journalists and Activists
Journalists and activists often need to protect their sources and their work from surveillance. GoDark Faraday Bags can help them do this by blocking all incoming and outgoing EMF signals. This means that their phones cannot be tracked by GPS or cell phone towers, and their devices cannot be hacked remotely.
Business Travelers
Business travelers often carry sensitive information on their laptops and other electronic devices. GoDark Faraday Bags can help to protect this information from data breaches and other threats. Additionally, GoDark Faraday Bags can help reduce business travelers’ exposure to EMF radiation from airplanes and other sources.
Law Enforcement and Military
Law enforcement and military personnel often need to protect their communications and other sensitive information from surveillance. GoDark Faraday Bags can help them do this by blocking all incoming and outgoing EMF signals. Additionally, GoDark Faraday Bags can help protect their devices from EMP blasts.
Preppers and Survivalists
Preppers and survivalists often need to be prepared for a variety of emergencies, including EMP blasts and other disasters. GoDark Faraday Bags can help protect their electronic devices from EMP blasts and other damage. Additionally, GoDark Faraday Bags can help them stay connected and informed during emergencies.

What Did I Get and How Do I Use It?
I have been using Faraday bags for years to protect my gear. I have everything from the ultra-thick Faraday bags that look like mylar bags up to the gigantic Faraday bags that can hold my Jackery 1000.
When I reached out to GoDark, I asked them if I could test out a couple of their faraday bags. They sent me out their 10L faraday bag along with their flagship phone bag. While they supplied me with the bags, they in no way paid me to talk about their product, and everything I’ve said in this article is my opinion and personal feedback.
GoDark Phone Bag
The GoDark phone bag is great for when you want to toss your phone in something quickly and completely erase yourself from the grid. The bag can stop cell phone tracking, block GPS tracking, shield your device from an EMP, and block EMF.
My son (he’s nine) found this item impressive as I showed him how to put the phone in the case and then told him to call me using the house phone. He stood there puzzled wondering why the phone wasn’t ringing and then why it didn’t show a missed call when I took my phone out of the GoDark Phone Bag. His exact words were, “That’s so cool.” Ah, to be young again.
But overall, I’m really liking the GoDark Phone Bag for use with my phone and another use I’m going to touch on in just a second.
Dimensions for this bag are as follows:
- Exterior: 8.25” x 4.5”
- Interior: 6.75” x 3.25”
Here’s where I use the phone bag more than anything — I store my key fob in it. Now, my usage is unconventional according to how you’re supposed to use the bag, but I’ve found it works perfectly even though GoDark does have a dedicated key fob Faraday cage called the Vault.
Why do I place my key fob in the bag? It’s because criminals are getting smarter, and they are now using devices that can pick up the signal from your key fob and then have access to your vehicle.
If you keep your keys at the front door and your vehicle is outside, someone can easily scrape your signal and drive off with your car. Also, how many times have you accidentally hit your key fob and set the alarm off, unlock your vehicle, or pop the trunk? In the bag, that’s not possible.
This is also useful for if you travel and stay in hotels. People could walk through the hall, pick up key fob signals, walk outside, and have access to a bunch of vehicles.
I’ve tested this product, and it definitely works. I pressed my key fob buttons while standing next to my car, and no signal left the bag. Also, when I put my phone in the bag, it wouldn’t ring or have any alerts come through even while the phone was on.
GoDark 10L Bag
Now, for what I consider the “fun” bag. I wanted a Faraday bag that I could toss some gear in and keep it safe. With the GoDark 10L Faraday Dry Bag, I can store a bunch of my gear in it that, if an EMP were ever to take place, would be safe and sound.
For instance, inside my 10L bag, I keep my night vision, extra rechargeable flashlights with cables and battery packs, a weapon mounted light to use with my night vision, an emergency radio, one of my Baofeng comms, a backup red dot optic (that can be put on a pistol, rifle, or shotgun), electronic ear pro, an old iPhone, an SD card, and a few other items. Any and all cables and chargers for everything mentioned are also in the bag.

Overall, there is a ton of space to put all of your essentials that you want to protect. Even better is that these bags (both the 5L and 10L bags) are also waterproof and have an IPX7 rating. It also has a removable and adjustable strap sling if you need to carry it.
Dimensions for this bag are as follows:
- Exterior: 17” x 6” x 9”
- Interior: 14.75” x 8.75” x 5.5”
Everything I mentioned inside my 10L bag fits well and is secure. This allows me to keep and store the bag wherever I want and have access to it quickly. Having a handle and strap also allows me to grab it and move quickly.
