Get Out of a Funk
There are several reasons why you may feel like you are in an funk. Work could be stressing you out. Your home life could be stressing you out. Your bank account could be stressing you out. The list goes on and on. If you don’t work towards achieving change, it’ll eat you alive and completely consume you. Unfortunately, this downward spiral can have many health and mental side effects. For that reason, we need to break free and need to focus on breaking the norm.
Breaking the Norm
I’m willing to bet that if you are in a funk, you are doing the same things day in and day out. Each week your routine is like clockwork. It’s like you’re watching the movie Groundhog Day. If this sounds like you, grab the mallet and break the emergency glass to pull out your saving grace… CHANGE. Huh? Exactly. Start breaking the norm.
You are so used to being in a routine that you don’t even know what change looks like these days. It could punch you right in the mouth and you wouldn’t even see which direction it came from. It’s like you have blinders on, Mr. Ed. Tear off those blinders and find a new path.
What do I mean by find a new path? To get out of a funk, you need to do things differently by breaking the norm. That means something out of the ordinary. Something that stimulates your brain in a different way. An interruption from the status quo. Change up your wardrobe. If you wear jeans and a shirt every day, change it up to slacks and a button down. If you drive to work the same way every day, take a different route to experience different scenery. Change what you do in your free time. If you spend all night watching television shows, start reading books and learn something new or build upon your skill sets. If you aren’t exercising, join a gym or start doing workouts at your house. Go somewhere that makes you feel happy and free. Maybe it’s the beach or the mountain? Just start breaking the norm! Trust me, it will help you get out of a funk.
The unfortunate thing is that it doesn’t take much for us to feel like we are in a funk. And on the flip side, it feels like a unachievable task to get out of a funk. But it’s not. You just need to force change and break the norm. Try doing something different today — even if you aren’t in a funk and see how it makes you feel. If you don’t feel anything, try something different. Constantly be evolving and changing and I’d be willing to bet your mental health and wellbeing will improve.
