BodySpace Spokesmodel: Allison Ethier Dreams Do Come True
Below is an interview I did with the extremely talented and IFBB Pro Fitness competitor Allison Ethier about becoming a Bodybuilding.com BodySpace Spokesmodel. Enjoy!
Can you give us some background information about yourself and a quick bio on who exactly Allison Ethier is?
Allison Ethier: I am a fitness competitor of 10 years, a mom to a 3-year-old, a high school math teacher, wife, NSCA-CPT certified, and official a gym rat.
I was a gymnast, and cheerleader throughout my high school, and university career. When you complete your studies finding activities to stay in shape with becomes a bit more of a challenge. Fitness was a way for me to keep the weight off after university, stay motivated, and in the spotlight.
Most recently I was the 2009 BB.com Spokesmodel and Ironman Cover Model.
My past achievements include Fitness America Champion, Fitness Canada Champion, 2X FAME/WNSO Fitness Champion, and Fitness New Brunswick Fitness Champion X2, Atlantic Fitness Champion.

For the last 4 years, I have been pursuing professional status in fitness as an IFBB Pro. I am hoping this is going to be a very good year for me. If I do happen to turn Pro this year, I will do a Pro fitness show right away in order to try to make it to the Olympia this year.
What drew you to the Bodybuilding.com website?
Allison Ethier: The amount of information provided to the public on anything, and everything bodybuilding, health, and fitness related. I refer many people there who are just starting out or have a goal of competing. Sometimes you need some more information to ask better questions.
The message board was an excellent addition to the BB.com community. That way asking your questions, and getting answers are immediate.
The contest coverage always makes me come back for more, including videos as it is nice to see videos of various fitness & bodybuilding personalities.
How long have you been a member of the Bodybuilding.com community?
Allison Ethier: 3 years. How long have I been competing – 10 years.
What is your favorite feature of the Bodybuilding.com website?
Allison Ethier: The search function – you can put in any topic, and find those who have written about it. I also love the contest coverage. What did we do before the Internet to find out contest placings? The photos and the video coverage allowed me to see my first Pro show. Without BB.com, I would never have seen one.
Supplements. Where do I start? You can get anything and everything delivered right to your door. Reviews are also on the website, so you can find out a lot about a product before buying.
What made you enter the Body Space Spokesmodel contest?
Allison Ethier: I just wanted to get my face out there more. I had taken a break 3 years prior to having my son, so I wanted to put my best effort in order to see where this fitness thing can take me. I have always loved being fit, healthy, and in the spotlight. Fitness for me combines all those elements. I eventually want to start my own personal training services; from general weight loss to helping those who want to step onstage.
What was the best part about winning?
Allison Ethier: The best part was realizing that I was being welcomed into the biggest fitness & bodybuilding community out there. It was the highlight of my year so far. I love going to the Arnold and have never been to the Olympia so this year will be my first time at that event. I am very proud and excited to be representing BB.com.

What was the best part of the contest in your eyes? I hear the finals round in LA was incredible.
Allison Ethier: The amount of time and effort BB.com put into the event was evident. The weekend was fun filled with social time with the other contestants, with fans, photo shoots, interviews, and ending onstage during the Ironman Pro. I loved being a part of the Ironman Pro show – not only did it have the best lighting, but seeing a Pro show happening from the backstage is incredible. During my regular day, I am a high school math teacher, I absolutely love everything about being at shows, and around others who are just like me. We are all so similar, and I continue to pull inspiration from those around me.
How has winning this contest helped elevate your career?
Allison Ethier: I had my first major cover of a magazine – Ironman Magazine – June 2009 issue. Plus they also gave me an interview and a layout inside. Shooting with Michael Neveux was a dream as I was familiar with his work. I have been pursuing covers for many years, and have had many layouts in various publications but never a cover. That was a huge accomplishment for me. Shooting a cover is never a done deal, so I am so proud that Ironman chose my cover to run. Hopefully, this will lead into other covers for various other publications. I guess I achieved my goal of getting my face ‘out there.’
What’s next for you? Any big plans?
Allison Ethier: Huge plans! Two shows – the CBBF Fitness and Figure Nationals August 15th in Vancouver, then the North Americans in Fitness August 29th in Cleveland. If perchance I turn pro I would compete at the Atlantic City Pro Fitness event in September.
I would love to be able to make it to the Olympia stage this year. Life is so short, so why wait?
Any shout outs or anything you would like to add to this interview that we haven’t already touched on?
Allison Ethier: I want to thank BB.com for continuing to support me. I know this beautiful relationship will continue. Thank you to Slimquick Extreme, and my husband for his support of my fitness career. Without them, and their encouragement, motivation, and belief in me I would never have come this far.
A huge ‘thank you’ to my friends, family, fans, and co-workers who all voted for me during the preliminaries and finals – without them, the win would not have happened.
I am truly grateful for them and their continuous support.
