Stan McQuay: An Interview with the Bodybuilder and Businessman

Born in Yokosuka, Japan in 1973 to a Japanese mother and Irish father,[1] Stan McQuay moved to the United States with his family at an early age, living first in Illinois before settling in Van Nuys, California. Growing up in the San Fernando Valley, Stan spent most of his free time surfing and skateboarding. Stan McQuay became steadily employed and enrolled in community college. At a maximum height of 5’ 7” and weighing 135 lbs, Stan McQuay began weight-training in order to gain the muscle-mass necessary for college football. MATT: Thank you so much, Stan, for taking the time out of your busy schedule to do this interview. Can you tell us a little bit about what you’ve been up to lately and what you’re working on?

STAN: Currently I am preparing to step back onstage for my 4th Olympia appearance. I have 3 kids to add to the mix along with several business ventures I am involved in.

MATT: You are the proud owner of Physique Inc. Can you tell us a little bit about your business?

STAN: Currently I own a personal training company called Physique Inc. We service professional athletes, pro and amateur bodybuilders both men and women and anybody that wants to be in the best shape of their life. I also am opening my new hardcore gym here in Northridge, CA called LEGENDS GYM. This unique hardcore gym will be a new age throwback to the 80’s – 90’s gyms. I am launching my app end of year as well as a few of my sports nutrition supplements. Stay tuned!

MATT: As a fan of your physique over the course of your career, you haven’t been a stranger to the weights and putting in the work. If you had to pick one moment in your career that meant the most to you, what would it be and why?

STAN: The moment that meant the most to me in my career was winning my very first IFBB Pro show. I didn’t even know if I had what it takes to compete at the IFBB pro level and I end up winning my pro debut.
